In case you didn´t know, Ronda is a haunted city, whose spell has been cast down allowing us to enjoy the most spectacular views. This mysterious walk begins in Plaza de la Merced where we will hear all about the intriguing story regarding the shirt of the Virgin of Peace and the renowned case involving the distinguished local who came back to life thanks to a miracle. Another must-see place on our route is Capilla de los Ajusticiados (Chapel of the Executed), a place of last prayers and wishes of the executed that would then go on to be executed before the public. Find out where the popular saying “colgar el sambenito” (to lay a guilt trip on someone) comes from. You´ll never guess!
You certainly can´t miss a visit to the impressive Puente Nuevo (New Bridge), a major work of art by the Spanish architect Martín de Aldehuela and the scene of numerous misdeeds. It´s clear that the city is commonly known for being a land of bandits and so there is no way we can leave without unveiling some of the most famous legends of these “Pirates of the Serranía”. Among them, we will discover the one about the Bandit Zamarilla and the incredible miracle of the white rose that accompanied him to heaven.
Do you want to know what happened in La Sauceda? It once served as a hideout for those who lived on the fringes of the law and has endless spine-chilling stories tucked away. We will talk about Casa Rúa known as Villa Apolo that currently lies in ruins. Legend has it that behind its walls, the disappearance of the family´s missing 8 year-old daughter took place and the subsequent apparitions and cries that led to the house being abandoned.
We will review the chronicles of the “bloodthirsty” King Abomelic and how the Catholic Monarchs succeeded in conquering the city. We will immerse ourselves in the most intense love stories lived in the town. Although not all stories have a happy ending the couples in love accompanying us may seal their eternal love under the leaves of the “tree of love” the Scarlet Pimpernel!
