Las Médulas Day Trip from Ponferrada

Our trip will begin when we pick you up at the hotel to head to Las Médulas, a World Heritage Site. They are the result of Roman gold mining during the 1st and 2nd centuries. It was considered the largest open pit gold mine in the entire Roman Empire. Discover its past with this excursion.

Once we arrive, a specialized guide will be waiting for us in Las Médulas. In the first part of the visit, we will go to the visitor reception center to see a 15-minute informative documentary about the environment, then we will begin the visit. The visit is guided and is done on foot, it lasts 2 hours. (Appropriate clothing and footwear is recommended). We will know the extraction process, "montiun ruin". This process considerably altered the landscape of the area, resulting in the unusual panorama of reddish sand covered with chestnut and oak trees that we can see today. At the end of the guided tour we will go to the Orellán viewpoint, to admire the effect caused on the mountain after the exploitation. After the visit to Las Médulas, return to Ponferrada.
