On our Free Tour to the Templar Castle of Ponferrada you will see how the Order of the Temple has left its mark after so many centuries.
Ponferrada Castle is the most important monument in the city. Founded by the enigmatic Order of the Temple in the 12th century, it was declared a national monument in 1924. With an area of 8000m2 it is the largest medieval castle in the Spanish northwest.
The manuscripts that it guards will teach us more about its ancient inhabitants as well as about our medieval past. The rule by which the Templars were governed, documents related to their strange disappearance.
At the meeting point, our visit begins next to the Las Cuadras building, a stone building attached to the wall of the Templar fortress. Currently, it is the Information and Tourism Office of Ponferrada.
On this visit we will enter the bowels of this magnificent fortress to discover its three-round wall, its five towers, spiral staircases, palaces, as well as its libraries.
