The Carmen Thyssen Malaga museum, located a few meters from the Plaza de la Constitución, houses the best sample of Andalusian painting from the 19th century, being a reference in Spain for its artistic wealth. It was inaugurated in 2011 by the Thyssen-Bornemisza foundation.
The artistic exhibition rests in the Villalon Palace. The museum has more than 285 pieces from the Carmen Thyssen-Bornemisza collection. This private collection contains works from the 19th and early 20th centuries, as well as Andalusian paintings. Highlights include such important artists as Valeriano Domínguez-Becquer, Eugenio Lucas Velázquez, José Jiménez Aranda, José Moreno Carbonero, Guillermo Gómez Gil, Mariano Fortuny, Raimundo de Madrazo, Emilio Sala, Carlos de Haes, Antonio María Reyne Manescau, Ramon Marti i Alsina, Aureliano de Beruete, Ignacio Pinazo and many others.
This museum is divided into four sections (Old Masters, Romantic Landscape and Customs, Preciousness and Naturalistic Landscape and End of the Century).
