Admire the beauty of “La Manquita” (the one-armed lady), the monument best loved by its locals and a true Renaissance jewel of Southern Europe.

Its full name is Santa Iglesia Catedral Basílica de la Encarnación (Our Lady of Incarnation) although the locals refer to it affectionately as “La Manquita” or the one-armed lady, do you happen to know why? Discover the answer to this and other fascinating facts relating to the most loved monument in the city in our Cathedral of Malaga Tour.
The Cathedral of Malaga combines several architectural styles and is considered to be one of the biggest jewels of the Renaissance period in Southern Europe. It was commissioned by the Catholic Kings after the reconquest on the remains of the old site of a former mosque (Mezquita Mayor de Malaga) although the unfinished works continued until 1782.
Our Spanish Speaking guide will be on hand to show us around the Cathedral and together we will explore all the finer details behind its impressive history and marvel at the religious works of art that are found there. Among them we will see the choir benches, Sillería del Coro de Pedro de Mena, the altarpiece known as the Altar Mayor de Diego de Vergara and the chapel called the Capilla de la Encarnación which lends its name to the cathedral.
