Follow your local guide and discover the history of the Monastery, as well as its architectural style. Fall in love with the fusion of Gothic and Renaissance styles in its basilica and sanctuary. Discover that the importance of the place is due to the legend that narrates the miraculous appearance of a representation of the Virgin with the baby Jesus in one of the caves of the mountain, the Santa Cova. Visit this wooden carving, nowadays kept in the church of the monastery. The figure is popularly known as La Moreneta due to a reaction of the varnish over time, which has darkened it.
Montserrat is closely linked to spirituality. Today a community of 80 monks live there following the rule of Saint Benedict. For this reason, in addition to the main monastery, the mountain is home to a large number of churches and hermitages, some of which are now abandoned.
