Ken Follett, Eva Gª Saenz de Urturi, Alvaro Arbina… Many writers have chosen Vitoria to set their novels. Do you want to walk through the streets that the protagonists and authors of great literary successes walked? Sign up for the literary tour of Vitoria!
We will begin this literary tour of Vitoria at 6:00 p.m. in the central White Virgin Square. In this place is the Monument to the Battle of Vitoria. We will walk through the city center and delve into the historical novel The Woman with a Clock, by Alvaro Arbina. From here we will remember some passages from Arbina's book, whose plot begins in Vitoria-Gasteiz and we will learn how the city experienced the confrontation with Napoleon's troops.
We will continue to the Cathedral of Santa Maria, inspiration for World Without End, a continuation of the great work The Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett, who was dazzled by the restoration project of the Cathedral. Next to the statue of the famous Welsh writer, we will return to the Middle Ages and to the fascinating English city of Kingsbridge, to discover the construction of a Gothic cathedral, as well as the secrets that its walls hold.
The streets of Vitoria have also been the scene of terrible crimes, both real and fictional. We will follow in the footsteps of Unai Lopez de Ayala, the protagonist of the crime novel The Silence of the White City, by Eva Garcia Saenz, and we will discover some of the most outstanding places in the novel.
With this guided tour, aimed both at people who have read these books and those who have not yet started reading them, we will visit a city that great writers such as Víctor Hugo, Pío Baroja or Benito Perez Galdos have already ventured to capture in their works.
