Madrid has been included in the select group of UNESCO World Heritage cities! To celebrate, in Arkeo Tour®, we have prepared this route so that you can discover the corners with the most universal value in the capital.
This visit is very special for us, and it has been a long wait since in 2019 Spain presented the candidacy of the Paseo del Prado and the Buen Retiro in the category of Cultural Landscape. Finally, in 2021 the credit has been awarded.
Among other reasons, UNESCO has valued the Retiro-Prado axis as the perfect prototype of an urban cultural landscape. Its 200 wooded hectares explain the historical evolution of the city since the 16th century, and they were also the first in the world to be opened to public use. This environment has served as inspiration for other tours in Latin American countries such as Mexico, Peru or Cuba.
This Landscape of Light is the first property to hold such a distinction in the city of Madrid, and the fifth in the Community. A special and unique feature is the incorporation of science into the urban landscape of the area with the creation of the Cabinet and Academy of Natural Sciences.
We will begin the visit at the Independence Gate of the Retiro Park. We will access the Park, where we will explain its transformation to the current public park and we will walk through the most emblematic places.
After a walk, we will leave the park towards Paseo del Prado. There, we will place ourselves in strategic places, from which the guide will transmit us the history and curiosities that have happened in one of the best-known Walks in the world.
