The Hermitages of Córdoba are located in the Nuestra Señora de Belén Desert, on the slopes of Sierra Morena, about 15 km from the city.
It is a site of undoubted scenic interest, listed as a Site of Scientific Interest, as well as cultural, Alfonso XIII himself was here.
The complex is made up of 13 hermitages, founded in the 18th century by Brother Francisco de Jesús, since 1957 they have been run by the Discalced Carmelites.
Inside the enclosure is located: a magnificent viewpoint, known as the "Balcony of the World", is presided over by the Sacred Heart of Jesus that is illuminated at night. From here, there are wonderful views of Córdoba, we can see the entire city, the Mosque-Cathedral, the countryside, the subbéticas mountains and even Sierra Nevada on very clear days.
We cannot leave without entering the church, seeing the cemetery and sitting in Bishop Trevilla's chair to learn about the curiosities of this magical place.
To get to the Hermitages we will take a hiking route with a medium-low degree of difficulty. It is a circular route, 9.5 km with a drop of 310m.
The tour starts from the Parador Nacional de la Arruzafa, former Almunia of the 1st Emir of al-Andalus, Abderraman I.
We will cross the Patriarca, an area of undoubted ecological value, we will climb the one known as Cuesta del Reventón and we will arrive at the road where the Via Crucis begins that leads us to the entrance of the entrance gate to the Hermitages
To take into account: the trail is easy, but you have to walk 10 km. Refrain people with reduced mobility and who are not physically prepared. As for children, parents will assess whether or not they are capable of doing this tour.
