Discover the history of Lima on this tour of the imperial city. Explore the area around the Cathedral and its iconic squares while learning interesting facts about the life and traditions of the ancient Empire.
We’ll meet in the heart of the Peruvian capital, near the plazas. From there, we’ll begin a free historical tour that will take us on a journey back in time to Imperial Lima. First, we’ll explore the nerve center of Old Lima, where public, cultural, and economic life flourished during the imperial era. We’ll begin by walking around the Imperial Squares, admiring their architecture from various vantage points. We’ll go back in time to the era of the Spanish viceroys—Toledo, Abascal, and others—as we take in the Basilica of San Francisco, ancient plazas, monumental columns, and many other sites of great historical significance. After discovering the curiosities of Spanish Imperial Lima, we’ll arrive at another of the most important monuments from this era: the Cathedral. This site has become a true symbol of the capital. You’ll be able to take thousands of photos of its façade while we reveal how it was built and what functions this 16th-century structure served. We’ll wrap up the free tour two hours later.
