Things to do Self-guided Visit: AdvenTour in Ávila

During the reconquest, shortly after the taking of Toledo by Alfonso VI in 1085, numerous knights came from France to collaborate with Christian arms. Among those gentlemen, Don Raimundo de Borgoña came to Spain, who married Doña Urraca, who would later become Urraca I of León.

Raimundo received from the king the order to repopulate Salamanca, Segovia and Ávila, to which nobles from Galicia, León and Asturias arrived.

From Asturias Ximeno Blázquez arrived in Ávila, who was soon entrusted with the government of this city. His lineage will be closely linked to Ávila and the reconquest and expansion of the crown of Castile.

Centuries later, during the revolt of the comuneros, one of his descendants, Gómez Dávila y Dávila, 8th Lord of San Román and Lord of Velada, aligned himself with the Castilian nobles supporting Juana de Castilla (La Loca) against their son, Carlos I, recently arrived from Flanders.

After Villalar's defeat in 1521, he repented and received royal pardon. His son who became a great friend of Felipe II who made him his Major Steward, head of the house and tutor to the then prince of Asturias, Felipe III. In October 1596 he wrote a confidential report on his royal pupil and sent it to the king.

However, it is believed that Gómez Dávila would have collected in a coffer documents with very sensitive information and testimony, some of them false, in case his relationship with the royal house was distorted and that, if they had seen the light, they could have distorted the fate of the greatest empire ever formed.

Various intelligence organizations and Anti groups are looking for that chest and its documents to sink the prestige of Spain and its kings and rewrite history, but you have the possibility to find it sooner and refute it with your knowledge or destroy it.
