Tour along the coast of Bizkaia where we will visit the most spectacular corners. We will travel through green valleys adorned by green meadows and forests until we reach the sea. It is about enjoying the union of the green of the countryside and the blue of the sea. And all this touring the most emblematic corners and the most beautiful towns of this amazing land.
On the Ruta de la Costa we will visit the following places:
- San Juan de Gaztelugatxe: Islet connected to land by a stone bridge where we can enjoy beautiful views, once we reach the top where the Hermitage of San Juan is located. To do this, we must ascend through 241 steps and then ring the hermitage bell three times if we want our wishes to be fulfilled. For Game of Thrones fans, note that the Castle of Dragonstone is located here.
- Bermeo: is a beautiful fishing village that was the capital of Bizkaia centuries ago until Bilbao took away that privilege. It was and continues to be a very important fishing port on the peninsula and it is a real pleasure to walk through the alleys of its Old Town or its port.
- Mundaka: Small town that overlooks the sea and is the gateway to the Urdaibai Biosphere Reserve. World famous for its "left wave" it is very visited by surfers. An absolutely relaxing walk thanks to its splendid views of the sea and the beaches that appear and disappear at the mercy of the tides.
- Gernika: Villa Foral full of symbolism for all Basque people. In it is the Juradero Tree and the Casa de Juntas where the Kings of Castile swore the Jurisdictions. On April 26, 1937 it was bombed and mostly reduced to rubble. This tragic event inspired Picasso to paint his famous painting "Gernika", the replica of which can be seen thanks to a mosaic.
Meanwhile the guide will explain to the travelers different aspects of the life and traditions of the Basques.
