Visiting the Portico of Glory is one of the obligatory stops to make in Santiago de Compostela. It is one of the most well-known and iconic Romanesque works in our country.

It is located at the west entrance of the Cathedral of Santiago and its construction began in the year 1188, finishing two decades later. It has more than 200 figures carved by Master Mateo more than 800 years ago and that still surprise today with the expression on their faces, the detail of their clothes and the message of hope they transmit.

It consists of three semicircular arches, the central one divided by a mullion, where the figure of Master Mateo himself is located looking into the interior of the Temple. The Catholic Church is represented in the center arch; in the one on the left the Church of the Jews; and on the right the Church of the Infidels.
