Meeting at Puerta de Alcalá, near the Retiro park, the tour begins at the site of Madrid's first ever bullring. After this introduction into the origins of the tradition, the tour will head to: - Hotel Wellington - a matadors home away from home. - The former home of the 'Bienvenida' Dynasty. - Monument to Francisco de Goya. - Fuente del Berro - the site of Madrid's second bullring (the stage for tauromaquia's "Golden Era"). - Calle Castelar - the oldest street in the neighborhood, featuring various architectural styles. - Plaza de Toros Las Ventas - One of the world's largest and most important bullrings, with explanations of the various statues that surround the arena. The tour lasts approximately two hours and a half, covering a distance of 3km, and concludes in Ventas near a number of authentic local restaurants and bars. Visitors can also access the Las Ventas Museum for free! Your guide will be a young torero who will relay not just the history of "tauromaquia", but also what it takes to stand in front of the animals.
