The Spanish Civil War marked the history of the city of Jaen and of an entire country. This conflict pitted Spaniards against Spaniards between 1936 and 1939, and which still maintains very open wounds today. We will meet in front of the Font New in the Mercy Square. Together with our guide in Spanish, we will discover the events that took place in the city.
We will start strolling through those places that were protagonists of this time. Jaen stood out for its importance as a bastion of the republican resistance. It was one of the few places in Andalusia that remained faithful to the established order, after the call for an uprising by Lieutenant General Queipo de Llano from Seville.
We will visit the Iglesia de la Merced, which was attacked by some militiamen who turned it into an asylum for war refugees. We will also see the Sagrario Church, the Santa Maria Square or the Czech of Bishop Street.
