The archaeological site of Puente Tablas, just 20 minutes from Jaén, houses a great heritage of the Iberians. Do you dare to discover its exciting story?
Our guided tour of the Puente Tablas archaeological site will begin at the remains of the ancient Iberian oppidum. This is the name given to the hills or plateaus that were fortified to protect the surrounding land.
Located next to the Guadalbullón river, the enclave will allow us to discover the customs and traditions of the Iberians. The province of Jaén is one of the places in Spain where more remains of this pre-Roman town have been preserved, with the Puente Tablas site being one of the most significant.
We will discover how the Iberians carried out the transit of the spring and autumn equinoxes. We will also visit the vestiges of the walled settlement, where the so-called Puerta del Sol and the ruins of the prince's palace and its different adjoining houses stand out.
To delve into the history of the Iberians, we will visit the Interpretation Center of the Oppidum of Puente Tablas. In the permanent exhibition of this museum we will see different objects belonging to the pre-Roman peoples who occupied the peninsular southeast. Next to each showcase we can also read different information panels that explain the trajectory of the Iberians throughout history in an educational and entertaining way.
