Do you want to discover the Old Catalonia? Come to our Girona Free Walking Tour and you will have the opportunity of exploring one of the oldest Catalonian cities, the capital of one of the twelve original Catalonian counties.
We will start in Plaça Catalunya (square) where we will tell you a little about Girona so that you can start discovering the most important features in this city. After that, we will go to the old town where we will tell you the most important facts about its history, its particular lifestyle or even some interesting legends. For instance, did you know that the fabulous Gerion founded the city? Or if you want to return to Girona you should kiss the lioness’s bottom? You will also discover mythological creatures like the Cocollona.
Our guided visit will continue through the Jewish Quarter or Call Jueu, one of the best kept Jewish quarters in Spain and one of the best kept medieval places in Europe. The Museum of Jewish History is placed in the old synagogue. We will also visit the impressive Cathedral of Santa María that combines Romanic, Gothic and Baroque styles and it has the second broadest nave in the world, after the well-known Saint Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican City.
We will walk through the Old Quarter or Barri Vell, the heart of Gerunda the Roman city, where we can find the most important heritage of the capital. It has unique monuments in Europe, civil buildings as well as religious ones. Did you know that it has walls from the Carolingian period? It is because it took place in the territory of the Marca Hispánica (the March of Barcelona) that was a defensive barrier created by Charlemagne against the Muslims of Al-Ándalus.
We simply cannot afford to miss out on our Girona Free Walking Tour, the Onyar Houses, picturesque multi-coloured houses hanging over the Onyar river that simulate a Mediterranean coastal city. There you can also find Rafael Masó’s birthplace, one of the best-known exponents of the Noucentista Movement, a Spanish autochthonous style. Are you going to miss this beautiful picture?
