Best things to do and see in Ávila?

Do you want to enjoy our guides in Spanish to discover the city with the best walled enclosure in the world? Enjoy our free tour of the city of Ávila!

Located in Castilla y León, it is the highest province in Spain, located at 1,131 meters above sea level. The Adaja river passes through the city bordering its imposing walls. These fortifications were declared a National Monument in 1984, so they were protected forever.

Guided tours take you to the wall of Ávila, which has 9 gates, being the Alcazar gate, together with that of San Vicente, the first to be built. Both are made up of two towers that, in turn, are linked by a bridge. Right in front of the door of the Alcazar is the Church of San Pedro, one of the buildings that you cannot miss in this city, and which houses several works of great value that will not leave you indifferent.

With our free tours we will visit the magnificent Cathedral of Ávila, the first Gothic-style cathedral in our country, which served two functions: that of a religious temple and that of defense of the city, since it was part of the wall. Right in the same square where the cathedral is, is the Palacio de los Velada, a 16th century construction that was converted into a beautiful hotel.

Another attraction of the Avilesa city is the museum and the Church - convent of Santa Teresa, the latter declared a National Monument. According to tradition, it was built on the birthplace of Santa Teresa de Jesús, and with our excursions and tours we will help you learn more about its history.

The basilica of San Vicente, the Torreón de los Guzmanes, the Monastery of Santo Tomás or the Plaza del Mercado Chico are other essentials that you have to visit in Ávila.

In addition to its monuments, if there is something that stands out in this city is its incredible local cuisine. From the famous Ávila steak, through the revolconas potatoes, the Castellana soup or delicious sweets such as the Santa Teresa yemas.
