Join us as we immerse ourselves in that “Gijón of the soul” sung about by Vicente Díaz, in this seaside town, in its Cimavilla neighborhood, and become that “cheerful Gijonés who frequents the cider bars.... On the beach, around the harbor, and down Corre Street...” But join us also on a journey spanning 5,000 years. The very starting point of our history (or rather, our prehistory) will surprise you. Beginning in the Neolithic era, we’ll move forward and meet the inhabitants of Gijón before the Romans arrived, as well as the Roman “culomoyaos.” Mythical medieval kings will lead us to discover gems of Asturian pre-Romanesque art, and Jovellanos will invite us into his home, where he’ll tell us about the new ideas of the Enlightenment. We’ll live like humble fishermen from Cimavilla and defend Xixón throughout the centuries from bunkers hidden in the cliffs. But don’t worry—there’ll also be time for beans and cider, for music, literature, and Xixón’s most “indie” cinema, so that, when you return to everyday life, you can sing those words… “I’ll never, ever forget you… Gijón of my heart!" Discover Gijón with us!
