Things to do Free Tour in San Fernando

We will start at the Plaza del Rey, the institutional heart of San Fernando. Before us will rise the imposing town hall, symbol of the weight of La Isla in the birth of contemporary Spain. Did you know that it is the third largest town hall in the country? We will move on to the Real Teatro de las Cortes, a sober building on the outside and decisive on the inside. This is where the first session of the Spanish Cortes was held in 1810. We will then continue on to the Iglesia Mayor de San Pedro y San Pablo. Its balanced neoclassical architecture will speak to us of faith, politics and nation in the same story. Next, we will enter the Callejón Crócquer, one of the most iconic streets of San Fernando, narrow and full of daily memory. From there we will move on to the Capitanía General, a key space to understand why La Isla was and continues to be a key space for the Spanish Army. We will continue to the San Romualdo Castle, the oldest building in the Bay of Cadiz still in use! Finally, we will close the tour in front of the Camarón de La Isla Interpretation Center and the mythical Venta de Vargas, where we will talk about José Monge Cruz, the universal voice of flamenco.
