You are about to discover the capital of Menorca! Did you know that fantastic legends run through the streets of Mahón? Or that among its mansions there are still ghosts of old merchants and corsairs that remind us that the city was sacked by Barbarossa himself in the 16th century? Let's discover one of its most important historical moments. Remember that throughout the 18th century, Menorca was under the rule of Great Britain for more than seventy years. We want to explore with you the vestiges of the British footprint in the city of Mahón! We will begin our visit at Plaça de s'Esplanada to discover some of the most significant buildings of the time: Els Quarters, the Town Hall, the Principal de La Guardia, and, of course, the Governor's Palace. Did you know that incorporating the color red to the facades as a decorative element is a frequent peculiarity in civil buildings, which has been called English colonial architecture? And above all, do not forget to try the Gin Xoriguer, a gin made in Mahón since the 18th century. Some Mahon artisans decided to start making it since the sailors and soldiers could not find gin in the bars on the island.
