Things to do Free Tour: Corners of Luarca
Luarca, the "Villa Blanca" of the Costa Verde and part of the "Pueblos Mágicos de España", stands out as an ancient whaling port of renown in Asturias, with a history that dates back to the granting of the Founding Charter by Alfonso X in 1270.
This picturesque enclave marks the beginning of the tenth stage of the "Camino de Santiago del Norte" and has been the birthplace of illustrious figures such as Severo Ochoa and Margarita Salas. In our tour, we will pass by monuments dedicated to these notables, including the birthplace of Severo Ochoa.
Luarca is divided into two distinct areas: the old town with its fishermen's neighborhoods and the more bourgeois area, connected by several bridges over the Rio Negro, some shrouded in local legends such as the Kissing Bridge. We will explore historic temples such as the Parish Church of San Eulalia and the medieval neighborhoods of La Pescadería and El Cambaral. We cannot fail to visit La Atalaya, a high point with panoramic views from the lighthouse to the cemetery, where the tomb of Severo Ochoa stands out, and the Mesa de los Mareantes, of medieval origin.
Our tour concludes at the picturesque fishing port.
