Our meeting point, the door of the City Hall, is where we start the adventure. We´ll speak an introduction in the Plaza Mayor (main square), talking about the origins of Cuenca.
Our tour goes for the street Julián Romero, the ancient street of the guards, where was in ancient times the city walls, and we will know the palace from XVII century that was the house of the son in law of Diego Velázquez, the famous painter.
This house was later the house for the children that sang in the choir of the Cathedral. Today, since 1953, is an inn, Posada san José, it was directed by Fidel García Berlanga, the brother of a famous film
director of Spain.
We´ll follow to the viewpoint called Florencio Cañas, a great and beautiful place, talking about the landscape and history.
A few minutes later, we´ll cross the Christo´s passage and the nobel families passages, a kind of tunnels that were the conection between the old and new houses of rich families of the town. We can appreciate how, in centuries, in Cuenca, the people took advantage of the gradient, incline oif the rock and the wall to be able to build houses.
Then, our steps go to the church of saint James and saint Peter, that has the fame of to be the very first one of the churchs of Christian people in the town.
Very soon of the castle, we´re goint to acces to the castle moats, where is one of the best museums of the city, the Museum of Contemporary Art of Antonio Pérez, a great artist and collector of art. This place was, from the XVII century until 1978 the convent of the Carmelitas Descalzas.
In the ruins of castle, we´ll discover the, probably, most beautiful viewpoint of Cuenca. At least, is the opinion of many, many people. Since there, the Hoz of the Huécar River stretches out before us, showing us an awesome landscape.
Then, we´ll descend to the Plaza Mayor walking through the Ronda del Júcar, the Hoz of the Júcar river, the main of the rivers of the town.
In Plaza Mayor, we´ll know the history of the Cathedral, the City Hall and some curiosities of the Plaza Mayor.
Finally, we finish the tour in the Hanging Houses and the bridge of san Pablo, talking about their beautiful history.
