Things to do Discover the History of Conil and its Almadrabera History

Conil, land of sea and tradition, has always been linked to tuna. The walls and defensive structures protected the valuable tuna trap industry and its by-products, which for centuries were the economic engine of the town. This tour leads us to discover fountains and old washing places, squares with history, arches, and gates that protected the town from the Atlantic. We begin with a walk along the Bateles beach and its promenade. From the beach avenue, we go up to the Torre de Guzmán, a restored and whitewashed Almohad tower, a vestige of an ancient medieval fortress. We enter the white alleys of Conil, crossing the Plaza de España with its tribute to the writer José Saramago and the Arco de la Villa, the old Puerta del Norte. In the Plaza de la Constitución, we discover the Town Hall, the Courts, and the Church of Virtudes, dedicated to the patron saint of the town. From there, the Mirador del Ayuntamiento offers spectacular views of the surroundings. We descend through the picturesque neighborhood of the Callejas de las Flores until we reach La Chanca, the current Tuna Interpretation Center, and the traditional techniques of almadrabera fishing.
