The tour was unfortunately overbooked, with more than 30 people in the group and no microphone or audio system. For a tip-based tour, more people isn’t always better. We are typically very generous tippers, but we ended up leaving because we simply couldn’t hear anything the guide was saying.
On top of that, the guide continued speaking not once but twice while church bells were ringing, which completely drowned him out. Obviously he can’t control when the bells ring, but it would have helped if he paused until they stopped or timed the walk between them. Given his knowledge of the city, it seems like something that could be anticipated.
It was frustrating because we had planned our day around the 11:00 a.m. start, and instead of getting a useful tour we ended up leaving early and feeling like we wasted part of our day. Honestly, we would have preferred not being able to book the tour at all so we could have planned something else.
