Two must-visit destinations in Poland are the Wieliczka Salt Mines and the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camps. On this tour, you can save money by exploring both sites on the same day.
We will leave Krakow in the morning and head to Oświęcim, the town where the largest concentration camp complex of the Nazi era, Auschwitz-Birkenau, was built.
In this first part of the tour, we will follow an itinerary similar to the excursion to Auschwitz-Birkenau. We will make a first stop at Auschwitz I, where we will arrive after approximately an hour and a half of travel. Here we will see up close the prison blocks where political prisoners were held and the only crematorium ovens that still stand.
Next, we will head to Auschwitz II-Birkenau, the infamous extermination camp built to carry out "The Solution to the End of the Jewish Problem." After visiting the barracks, the train tracks and the remains of the crematoriums that were destroyed by the Nazis before fleeing the area, we will return to Krakow. Once there, you will have free time to regain strength before continuing the tour.
In the afternoon, we will meet again in the center of Krakow to follow a route similar to the excursion to the Wieliczka Salt Mines.
In this part of the tour we will enter the underground salt cathedral of Poland to visit the oldest salt mines in the world along a 3.5 kilometer route. After touring its labyrinthine galleries and admiring its underground lakes, the most surprising moment of the tour will arrive: the visit to the Chapel of St. Kinga, a 54-meter-long room completely decorated with salt.
Having completed the tour of some of the most visited places in Poland, we will head back to Krakow by bus. The tour ends at the same starting point between 7:30 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.
