The field was gradually built and developed from the end of 1942 until the end of 1944. In it, thousands of Jews and Poles, many of whom lived in Krakow, were murdered. Shortly after the war, this field was forgotten and the communist authorities did not notice the special significance of this place allowing the construction of some residential areas etc. The place where the field is located in a huge cemetery of ashes scattered from the thousands of victims that were executed here. This was the place where many of the lives of the Krakow Jews ended. Thousands of people in the ghetto of Krakow were moved here when it was decided to close this one. Płaszów was the scene of mass executions and of prisoners forced to work in inhumane conditions. It is in this field where most of the scenes that take place in Steven Spielberg's film Schindler's List take place.
