Things to do Lagos Free Walking Tour With Local Historian
With the Lagos Walking Tour, you can experience the urban evolution of the area in a relaxed way and the importance of this town in world history. I will reveal to you the history, stories, myths, economy, and society. Celtic Iron Age will reveal where they found Lacobriga: The first urban nucleus, objects, and way of living. Found where the Romans settled down, their activities, and archaeological finds. You will see the Middle Ages Wall and Urban Trace, which were built by the Portuguese. From the Modern Era, you will learn from Henry the Navigator, his role in the discovery movement, and slaves. The Modern Era wall partially surrounds the old town and the cemetery of slaves today. On this tour, you will walk through the path of the Last Convicted to death for a civil crime in Portugal. I will explain why there is a King Dom Sebastião statue in our main square. With gravures, old photos, and photos reconstitution that you will see in this experience, you will look at Lagos from a completely new perspective.

An entertaining tour focusing more on tourist tips and art history than history itself. Informative, intelligent, funny. Best to book it at the beginning of a visit to Lagos (I had been there for a week already so I had already seen pretty much everything on my own). The best part for me was the interpretations and connections behind the art. That being said, the one thing that really threw me off was the guide coughing profusely (most of the times in open air, sometimes into his hands and then touching things he was handing out to us). Covid paranoia I guess...

Met in the main square. Ligio was very knowledgeable. Excellent info on your lovely town. Covering trees, plants wall art and of course the local history and the beautiful buildings. It was 2 hours and 30 minutes long but so worth it. Also recommended places to eat and what wine to drink and boat trip to take.

“Miscommunication”
I had booked the 2pm tour, waited 30 minutes and tried to message 2 times but never showed up. I received a message at 3 pm saying that the guide thought that I had booked the 10am tour and waited for me. I understand that miscommunication can happen but, the guide never tried to get in contact with me when he waited for us at the wrong time (10 am). In that case we could have avoided to find ourselves in that kind of situation.
Regardless I'm sure the quality of his tour is excellent and he offered to reschedul on another day (which was not possible because we were leaving the day after) but a better communication and a little more attention to details would be something to improv.

This tour was unlike any other city tour we’ve done before. It started out a little strange with a stop at Ligio’s shop to taste wine (no complaints about that) and we were thinking “what the heck is this tour?” but from there things got moving and we got a true glimpse into the history and culture of Lagos from a local’s perspective. The treats from local shops were a bonus. We left thinking it was the weirdest experience we’ve had on a tour but a day later we realize it was one of the best. Go in with no expectations. Forget everything you know about free city tours and have fun.

I couldn't recommend this tour more highly. In just a few hours, Ligio managed to fill us in on the area's history and evolution since the Phoenicians onwards, allow us to taste test local market food and wine, and introduce us to unique art shops (for handmade tiles, shoes made from fish leather, etc.) that I later went back to for gifts that were much more meaningful than the usual tourist junk. Our tour also included background on different architectural styles, various statues and displays of street art that I truly wouldn't have understood on my own. Ligio also took us to the archeological remains of a former leper hospital and slave grave that is just outside the city walls. It was an excellent and enlightening tour that I would take again if I could!

A must do in Lagos. Was worried it might be too hot to do the tour at 10am but Ligio was great to find the shade when educating us on the history of Lagos. His wisdom and knowledge is extensive and I wish I had more cash on me to tip him properly as he really knew his stuff and no question was too hard for him. Two hour tour, just about right to lead into lunch time. Got some great recommendations for other activities too!

The tour overall was very nice. I couldnt help but notice that many parts of the tour were presented from a script. For example, one of the market sellers told us something about his product, while th guide was talking to someone and then the guide said the exact same thing a couple of minutes later. Sometimes the guide started a sentence, then stopped half way and started a new sentence. And after that the sentence from before was started again.

The guide seperated the tour into different parts, like history, street art, plants of the algarve, local market visit with tasting of local food and some stories of the town. he gave a lot of nice reccommendations where to go, what to see and where to eat. he had a folder with various pictures to show differences in the historical development of the city and the algarve. very interesting tour for everyone wanting to learn more about lagos and the algarve in general! ????

Knowledgable, funny, took us to excellent areas of the old town. Also gave lots of recommendations of local places to eat and things to do in Lagos. Would definitely recommend!

“Very Cool Tour”
Our tour guide, Ligio, was amazing. Knew everything about Lagos and was very friendly too. Ligio went into a lot of detail about the city, including history, agriculture and even street art (which was pretty cool! I would definitely recommend this tour.
