Me and my husband recently did a free tour in Fira in Santorini with Muhammed.
If you are thinking about doing it- please reconsider.
We have done multiple free tours before and this one was definitely the worst.
First thing- the communication- we booked the tour for 4pm, later we received invitation for 5pm tour and the ypur guide was texting is since 3pm to check where we were.
The second- we were asked by email to pay not less than €15 per person for the guide- i believe this is not what free tours are about- obviously we know the guides are not giving the tours for free and we are happy to pay even more- but it depends on the tour content and our evaluation of it.
The third an most serious thing: I wonder if the Free Tour company is ever assessing their guides… if they dont they definitely should.
Well, our tour guide- Muhammed (very nice person amd we do wish him all the best) had absolute no knowledge about Santorini, Santorini history, he was there simply for “easy money” - bring some tourist around and tell them few things about the island and thats it. He was checking stuff online while showing us the man streets in Fira- he had no clue where to go and what to say.
It was really bad, believe me. He had no plan where to take us, no real passion, no interest in the island. And it was visible.
I am pretty sure i have more knowledge about Santorini after reading few guide books and watching you tube videos before we got here.
His English was not great as well -and as my first language is not English I have lots of understanding towards non English speaking people, in case of our tour guide it was also affecting our tour. He did not have enough vocabulary, he was mixing years, facts, he was looking for words.
In a nutshell- it was waste of our time and money.
Definitely our worst experience on beautiful Santorini.
