Things to do Free Tour: The Hidden History of the Former Buenos Aires Zoo

how did Buenos Aires go from having a European-style zoo in the middle of the city center to an eco-park dedicated to biodiversity conservation? Along the way, we will unearth the secrets of a transformation that was as necessary as it was controversial. We will talk about the political decisions, the behind-the-scenes business dealings, the resistance, the scandals and the cross-interests that marked the demise of the old zoo. We will also learn the stories of the animals, workers, activists and neighbors who played a leading role -from different places- in this process of change. Today, the Ecopark continues to work with animals, focusing on welfare, conservation and environmental education. During the visit we will meet condors, giraffes, monkeys, birds of prey and many other species, while we reflect on how cities change, what we do with our heritage and what role we give nature in public spaces today.
