Discover Historic Cartagena and Getsemaní in a single free tour through the scenes of enslavement, pirates and corsairs, battles, Graffiti, Salsa and Champeta and much more as a result of the mixture of indigenous, African and Spanish and migrants.
We start this free tour in the Camellón de Los Mártires, where we will learn about the indigenous people who were before and during the arrival of the Spanish. Then, we´ll go to the Clock Tower to learn about the foundation of Cartagena and Pedro de Heredía.
To start talking about the enslavement route there is a stop in "Plaza de la Contraloría", where is also the Municipal Hall. After that, religion will make presence with San Pedro Claver, Slave of the Slaves, and we will see the Architecture of the Church and Museum-Monastery that bear his name and is the Headquarters of Human Rights.
We continue to Plaza Bolívar where the precursor of Independence, Simón Bolívar, become the protagonist. We will see The Plaza de la Proclamación, Old Government Palace and the Centennial Park as scenarios of the Independence of Cartagena and Colombia.
Continuing along Calle Román we can remember one of the Presidents of the Republic who has transcendent in history. This street connect us tho the Centennial Park, one of the urban lungs of Cartagena and a spot to discover sloth bears, squirrels and iguanas.
Here we enter the colorful and cultural corridors of Getsemaní. In this neighborhood we will explore more history, graffiti and the sounds of Champeta and Salsa.
