Gastronomy: Street Food Tour in Cartagena

Camilo was a great guide and the food was all top notch and came with historical and cultural context! Also a great way for solo travelers to make friends, a big group of us hung out for a few hours after in Getsemani.

Alvaro gave us a wonderful street food experience with lots of extra background and history info that helped us appreciate the food. Wonderful taste and a must experience. It was the perfect way to be introduced to the Cartagena area and it’s special foods on our first evening in town. Alvaro continued to be helpful after the tour when we had questions during our days at Cartagena Thank you Alvaro!

Our original English guide apparently did not show up for our tour so Nando was our replacement. We could not ask for a better guide, he was super friendly and showed us the real Cartagena. He explained how there are so many different type of cultures in the city and why the street food vendors are an important part of the different local cultures. We loved Nando as he has the most positive attitude and seemed to know everyone on the streets.

I attended many walking tours with different agencies and that one was definitely worst organized I’ve ever experienced. Me and my wife signed up for a food tour in English. We were at the meeting point on time and we found out that there is only a Spanish guide. They organized a guide for us but he was like 20 minutes late and he was a student, not 100% prepared to make a tour. I don’t blame him because he was called on the spot and had no real chance to prepare. He was very friendly and he made a great effort to explain everything to us but his English was not super fluent and he simply was not that experienced. In my opinion he was also put in the difficult situation by the company, the same as we did. At the same time we were following the tour that was run be a Spanish guide but the lady (guide) didn’t even pay any attention to us. For example she gave away some food samples to the participants of the Spanish tour but not to us. On the other hand she always wanted us to join the pictures and as we know she did it because the company obliges guides to present such pictures. At the end of the tour the Spanish guide even left us, I mean me, my wife and the student who was our guide so we couldn’t finish the tour properly. The tour was carried so unprofessional as if they were doing it for the first time. Total chaos and disorganization with no respect to the clients who signed up and specified the language of the tour in advance. The only positive thing about the tour was the student who became our guide as he really tried hard to do his job so when he gets more experience and a bit better English skills he has a good potential to be a great guide.

Emily walked us through different neighborhoods providing the history of the place and the food. We had some good food that we hadnt discovered in Cartagena before. Would highly recommend Emily on this tour!

This tour far exceeded my expectations. It’s a great, non invasive way to learn and taste authentic Colombian food. Many times as a traveler, one doesn’t know how to order or what to order at local food stalls. This tour does it for you in a tasteful way (pun intended). Our guide Liz was amazing and went above the call of duty to ensure each person had an enjoyable experience. She even WhatsApp’d everyone all the photos she took during the tour at the end!

We were recommended this tour by friends but did not know what to expect. The tour was amazing and our guide, Emily Chala, was incredible. She took her time explaining to us everything about the city including the history and how the food came to be. She then took us to multiple neighbourhoods and had us try the local food. It was so nice to just go with her into local corner stores and street stands that we might not have gone to otherwise. We really got to experience the local culture and felt very integrated in the city in a new way! Highly recommend this tour!

Lis did a great job. We had a lot of different food and she told us a lot about the dishes and history about it! I can totally recommend it, but be prepared to eat a lot.
