Explore the colorful streets that inspired the Noble Prize winner Gabriel García Márquez (Gabo) in this unique route: García Márquez, Myths y Legends Free Tour. You will go through a Cartagena´s side never seen before, while our guides take you from the museum, to the theater and the mausoleum, visiting the houses where he lived, places he talked about in his writings and even where his ashes rest.
We will start at the meeting time at the Camellón de Los Mártires - Plaza de Cervantes where we will see the arrival of Gabriel García Máquez to the city, together with the places and characters that appear in some of his writings related to that place.
Then, we will move to the Plaza Cervantes - Plaza de los Periodistas where we will see the story of the journalist 'Gabo', different legends from the caribean and why a statue of Miguel de Cervantes appears there.
Then, we will walk to Calle del Tablón. At this point, with the historic center as the protagonist, we will go through the history of the first years Gabo's life, in addition to talking about the history of this street. After that, we will walk to Calle Primera de Badillo and we will figure out why this street is called like that and its relationship with the life story of 'Gabo'.
After, we will be in Parque Fernández de Madrid. With the Church of Santo Toribio in the background, we will give way to the stories that link 'Gabo' with Cartagena and his books. Later on we will move to Calle Cochera del Hobo to tal about the Cartagena writer Germán Espinosa, who influenced the author of magical realism.
Afterwards, we´ll go to Parque de San Diego to discover some settings of his books. Then, we will move to La Serrezuela and learn some history about this interesting place that used to be a bullring. And, finally, we will finish in Teatro Adolfo Mejía, a beautiful place near where Gabo´s ashes rest.
