As an academically trained teacher of English and history—and a local who’s called Dresden home for 12 years with family ties all over East Germany—I’ll guide you through the politics, art, and personal stories that shaped the Altstadt’s reconstruction. I am sure he is following scripts for city of Dresden tours. I have one concern: it's too much about how bad Life under socialism, but it's a zero about how socialism came to Germany. Germany was a war starter in which 26000000 people were killed, starved, and burnt. This is how socialism came into Germany. Germany brought it on yourself.

“BEST FREE TOUR EVER”
This is definitely the best free tour I have ever attended, period. And I have attended a few.
Paul brings Dreden's history to life (and East Germany's as a whole). With a lot of historical knowledge, amazing speech skills and a great passion for his work, he doesn't just show nice monuments or mention historically relevant dates but really makes you understand the (often tragic, but sometimes fun) human stories behind it. He also knows when to put some of his own life story into the tour as a perspective without making it all about himself.
His English is so good, I didn't realise he was actually a German local until we were several minutes into the tour.
You can tell he cares about the stuff he talks about, he is very spontaneous about it and, unlike other guides, he doesn't just follow his script, but is also very open for questions and discussions. We even exchanged some book and movies recommendations.
As a "downside" (not really, it's just not the type of tour for that) you don't get many food or party recommendations like you do in other tours, because it's more about the historical and cultural perspective. Which is still very much worth it.
(So sorry for forgetting to leave a review! It took me months to remember to do it)

Paul is an awesome tour guide with lots of useful and interesting information in his pocket. We were having a tour on a grey and foggy November morning but it felt somehow cosy and warm all thanks to his great spirit and great communicational skills. “A perfect opportunity to get to know the history of Dresden”
I want to thank our guide, Paul, for sharing his knowledge about Dresden with us. I could really see his enthusiasm for the subject, which kept the group engaged for the entire 2.5 hours! We explored the historic center and discovered places we wouldn’t have found without Paul. He also gave us great recommendations on where to eat and things to do. I enjoyed the tour!

“Dresden Free Walking Tour”
This tour was really amazing. We enjoyed it and got a lot of information from Paul who demonstrated his familiarity and expertise on the historical facts of the spots we’re going. For his recommendation, we were never disappointed with Codo. We loved the food and very affordable.
