Munich Old City Free Tour
You will get a profound insight into the history and the development of Munich from the Middle Ages until modern times and visit some of the most famous and important landmarks in the Old City.
Things to do Munich Old City Free Tour
Please book at least 24 hours in advance. The tour takes place when at least 7 people have signed up for the tour. We will meet on "Marienplatz" at the Hugendubel corner - look for the man with the dark brown cowboy hat. After getting to know each other with an introduction to the history of Munich, we will "take off" with the oldest church in Munich, "Saint Peter". Then will cross "Marienplatz" with the old and the new city hall to the "Cathedral Church of Our Lady - Frauenkirche". From there we'll pass through Emperor's fortress and the biggest city castle in Germany, the "Residenz", to reach "Fieldmarschalsshall". The "Viktualien Market" - our next stop - offers 1807 local products. Here, our tour will end.

Michael hat uns toll durch die Gassen von München geführt. Die wichtigsten Sehenswürdigkeiten hat er uns mit viel Background erzählt. Es war sehr unterhaltsam.

“Wissenswertes außerhalb des gängigen Tourismus Plätze ”
Die Tour war prima, wir hatten eine super tourguide der uns zwar nur einen kleinen Teil von München gezeigt und erklärt hat, aber das war super. Sowas hatten wir nicht auf dem Plan das es auch mehr wie Marienplatz usw. Gibt. Prima unbedingt machen das lohnt sich echt.

“Münchner Altstadt Anfang April”
Die zweistündige Führung durch die Altstadt hat Spaß gemacht, verknüpfte sie doch die absoluten Highlights Münchens. Überall gab es viel Wissenswertes mitzunehmen. Unser Führer Herr Schwennen kannte sich aus. Die eine oder andere anekdotische Seitenerzählung mehr, die es vereinzelt gab, wäre das i-Tüpfelchen gewesen.

“kein Vergnügen ”
möchte nicht zu kritisch sein, aber die Tour durch München mit Michael war kein Vergnügen!
Der Tourguide lässt jede Begeisterung und Freude vermissen. Dies ging gleich bei der Anmeldung los, als von ihm, nach der Nennung des eigenen Namens, tatsächlich keine Reaktion kam!
Ein weiteres Problem war, dass er viel zu leise und monoton gesprochen hat!
Ich habe auch bei über 15 Touren noch nicht erlebt, dass Teilnehmer einfach vorzeitig die Tour abgebrochen haben. Ich kann mit meinen Empfindungen also nicht alleine gewesen sein!

Es hat leider von Start bis Ziel keinen Spaß gemacht. Selbst eine kurze Vorstellungsrunde aller Teilnehmer hat gefehlt!

Sehr informativ hinsichtlich geschichtlicher Daten und Entwicklungen, Rundgang in sinnvoller Abfolge. Ein paar mehr Anekdoten oder Tipps München und die jeweiligen Orte betreffend wären wünschenswert. Insgesamt aber sehr gut und in angenehmer Atmosphäre.

“Free Tour München”
Die Tour war zwar grundsätzlich interessant, jedoch hätte man den Inhalt auch in 1,5 Stunden oder weniger abhaken können. Sehr langatmig, Kirchen könnten auch nach der Tour alleine besichtigt werden, das muss nicht während der Tour passieren, private Geschichten kürzen!

“Was not so interesting and understandable”
We had quite some missing content for the tour. We were first time in Germany and Bavaria and then quite often didn't understand what is it about. So couldn't understand well the Bayern history and spirit. Sometimes it was also very hard to listen but that is when it is very busy in the city.

“No podia escuchar bien”
Hablaba muy bajito incluso cuando había mucho ruido. Con critica constructiva le recomiendo al guía que haga el tour con micrófono. Buenos sitios los que visitamos pero el guía entraba mucho en detalles innecesarios y se nos hizo un poco pesado el tour. A parte de todo esto, nos pareció un buen hombre y tranquilo.

“Useful experience”
We took Michael Schwennen on an entertaining and informative tour of downtown Munich in just over 150 minutes. The communication in advance was personal by email, the meeting point was easy to find and in terms of content we found out about churches, squares, interesting stories and historical things. “Great Tour, but bad day”
Michael is a very great guy, but the weather didn't help. The time also didn't. In winter, a tour starting at 5pm is very harsh. There was snow and was very cold, and almost everything is outdoors (undestandable). I would suggest moving the starting time earlier.
I think that hindered the experience. The guide managed it well, but there was not much to do.

As a historian Michael is an extremely knowledgeable guide who made the tour very enjoyable. Even though I'm living in Munich myself, I learned a lot of new things that I certainly would not have experienced otherwise. I recommend the tour for visitors and locals as well.

“Actually, Language was German”
Als Neuling im Großraum München wollte ich mir einmal die Kulturellen Highlights der Stadt erklären lassen.
Die Tour enthält recht viele Kirchen. Da Touren über eine geschickte Route laufen, ist die Chronologische Reihenfolge immer etwas schwierig nachzuvollziehen, vor allem über drei Stunden. Dennoch hat man nicht den Eindruck, mit zu viel Information überfordert zu werden.
Die Laufstrecke hält sich aber in einem machbaren Rahmen für alle Altersgruppen.
Es gibt viel Information zu den politischen Botschaften, die sich in Fassaden finden und auch Bilder und mehr Information von dem Innenleben von Sehenswürdigkeiten, die man Besuchen kann gegen Eintritt.
Die Tour ist definitiv den Zeitaufwand wert für alle (Neu-)Münchner und Touristen.

“Happened to be a private free tour”
Due to the pandemic, the interest was not high, but Michael, our guide, was kind enough not to cancel the tour even only two of us joined. Despite that we were not typical tourists in Munich, Michael managed the tour very nicely. The tour was dominated by visiting several Munich churches and i would recommend it to anyone who is interested in history of Munich through the religious point of view.

“Great tour”
It was great to be able to find a tour willing to show me and my friends around Munich in a COVID-safe way. We were able to see lots of the main sights in the the city centre in the 3 hours and Michael, our guide, was very knowledgable and gave us lots of interesting facts about the city! We were all really happy with the tour and would recommend it as something to do for both visitors and locals - especially now whilst all other leisure activities are closed.
