Join us to explore Funchal's Old Town, once a seafarer's hub and now a lively outdoor gallery. Discover vibrant street art, charming bars, and delightful restaurants on this unique journey! Don't miss it!
The Old Town of Funchal was the first Portuguese settlement outside of Portugal. Right away, a community of fishermen and seafarers was created. For centuries, these people lived in very precarious conditions. Always an emblematic part of the city, in 2010 a project started to give a new face to the Old Town. Now, beautifully painted doors with art make Rua Santa Maria and the Old Town a unique outdoor gallery. Before we get to the Old Town, we will pass by other important historical areas of Funchal. We will tell you the story of (possibly) the most popular drink in Madeira and recommend where you can try it. Floods are part of the Madeiran History, a force of nature feared by the locals. Many attempts have been made to try and minimize the consequences of these events. Some of these events have been so catastrophic that people came up with supernatural explanations for them! Highlights: - São Lourenço Palace; - Legislative Assembley; - Varadouros Square; - D. Manuel Bridge; - Rua Santa Maria; - São Tiago Forte; - Igreja do Socorro. Language: English Funchal is a hilly city. We're going upstairs and downstairs on this tour. Not suitable for wheelchairs or pushchairs.
