Embark on a journey to communist Budapest. From the aftermath of World War II until the 1990s, Hungary became a Soviet satellite state. Join us as we explore this transformative era in Hungarian history
Immerse yourself in one of the most fascinating chapters of Hungary's recent history.
In this Free Tour of Communism we will walk through the traces left by the Soviet dictatorship in Budapest, from the entry of Hungary as a satellite state of the Soviet Union, through the outbreak of the 1956 Revolution, to the scars that still mark the city.
We will tell you what daily life was like under the regime: what they ate, how they lived, how they circumvented censorship and what role Hungary played within the communist bloc. We will also talk about Spain's secret plan, during Franco's government, and how the fall of the Iron Curtain was experienced.
We will see the Soviet Monument, the sculpture of Ronald Reagan, the access to the secret bunker of Rákosi, and we will travel on the M3 subway to reach district VIII, the neighborhood of the revolutionaries.
There we will visit the ruinous Grund pub, the statue of Bud Spencer, and we will finish at the Corvin Cinema, symbol of the youth resistance.
An essential experience to discover the other side of Budapest, with a close, rigorous and deeply human approach.
