welcome to the so-called Manhattan of the Meuse, a reinvented city that breaks away from the traditional architectural schemes of the Netherlands. We start the tour at the stunning Central Station, and I will reveal what it points out. The bombing in 1940 and its devastation pushed the city to reorganize completely, so we will go through Lijbaan, a commercial area of 53 that was so pioneering that it was imitated in other European cities. We will continue our tour through Coolsingel where we will visit and discover why buildings such as the Stadhuis (the town hall), the Witte Huis, or Saint Laurenskerk remained intact in the war. We will see where Napoleon Bonaparte stayed, enjoy the contrasts offered by the surroundings of the Oude Haven (the old harbor), reach the banks of the river Meuse where we will see the bridges Erasmusbrug, Willemsburg and De Hef and talk about the battle against the Nazis that took place on one of them. on our 2,30 h walk we will also see the Witte House, the Cubic Houses, Markthall and the foods that the Dutch like the most, sculptures, mosaics, anecdotes.... and surely a duck or two!
