Let's convene at the Kralingse Zoom metro station (Rotterdam East) at 11:00. After a warm welcome and introductions, our journey will commence, guiding us towards the enchanting Arboretum Trompenburg. The hike will conclude at either Rotterdam Blaak or Central Station.
Arboretum Trompenburg, established in 1850, unfolds as a meticulously designed botanic garden in the English landscape style. It boasts serene water features, meandering paths, and a diverse array of trees, shrubs, perennials, bulbs, and tubers. Noteworthy are its collections of oaks, beeches, holly, and plantain lilies, proudly recognized as part of the Dutch National Plant Collection. Amidst this botanical haven, you'll also encounter a delightful variety of cacti.
Following our botanical adventure, we'll continue our hike through the historic district of old Kralingen. This area is adorned with stately villas, impressive manor houses, remnants of former moats, and charming parks nestled on former country estates, truly hidden gems in Rotterdam.
