Alfama is not only one of the oldest and most picturesque neighborhoods in Lisbon, but it was also one of the only neighborhoods that was not destroyed in the 1755 earthquake. And so, the city still maintained its familiar charm. In fact, this neighborhood’s nickname comes from the Arabic ‘Al-hamma’ which means ‘hot springs’ or ‘baths’. Decorated with beautiful tiles, this neighborhood's steep, winding alleys give way to stunning views over a sea of terracotta roofs and the Tagus River. The aromas of traditional Portuguese cuisine, the echoes of fado and the conversation of elderly Portuguese people make this neighborhood one of the most authentic in Lisbon! Our tour starts in Rossio and passes through some key areas before heading to the heart of Alfama, where you will also stop at Miradouro Portas do Sol, before ending the tour at the cathedral. I highly recommend this tour - our guide was full of knowledge with all things alfama!!! it's pointless just staring at buildings on your own with no insight of it's history - be prepared to give a tip and you'll get all the information you need.

I enjoyed this 3 hour tour with Luigi who managed to pack good content within the limited time. I felt the vibe in Alfama just as I imagined. Time well spent!

“great tour”
The tour happened to be on a very rainy day, but the guide Luigi did his very best to make the most of our time. He was very knowledgeable, had a great sense of humour and answered questions beyond the content of the tour. He was indeed very helpful. I did not think much of Alfama but if I had not been with this tour I would have wasted a whole morning. Like this at least I learnt a lot about the history and culture of the place and made sense of whatever we saw during our walk. I highly suggest the tour.

“Great tour of Lisbon”
We didn't have a great start as our 1st guidentold unit wasn't actually a 'free' tour but that we had to pay 10E or more and if we weren't happy with that then we could leave. As our group had been split in 2, we went with the other guide who wasn't as annoying, was informative, a lovely guy (Afonso) and didn't tell us what to donate. We donated generously anyway as it was our choice, jot what we were told to donate. Interesting tour with lots of good information and we went to places we would have taken ages to find on our own.

We had an amazing time touring through the heart of Lisbon, and understanding the history of the place. Our guide Vivian was very informative and knew the best places for some nice photos. The tour is also very efficient since you get to see the main sites in an informative way with the guide's know how, something that would have otherwise taken a lot longer if done solo. “Great historical tour”
We really enjoyed the tour. Gui was an excellent guide. For me at some parts there was too much history and not enough walking but other people would love this. We saw some great things and Gui was very knowledgeable, friendly and helpful with recommendations.
