Things to do Best of Galway Free Walking Tour
We will meet at the indicated time on the steps of Galway City Museum/Tourist office, next to the Spanish Arch to start this free tour of Galway. Are you ready to tour the most important points of the cultural capital of Ireland? Let's go there! We will begin to walk through the lively streets of Galway while we talk about its history. Years ago it was a small fishing village, and today it is a modern, young and university city. In addition, it has a privileged location, since it is the gateway to the Connemara National Park, one of the most beautiful natural areas in Ireland. We will continue the tour of the Galway, getting lost in its alleys and talking about a lot of curiosities. For example, did you know that, according to tradition, this city was formed after the settlement of 14 merchant families in the 15th century? These tribes would leave as a legacy the Castle of Lynch and the Collegiate Church of San Nicolás. The free tour of Galway will take us in front of this last church, where we will tell you about the legend that says that Christopher Columbus himself visited this temple before beginning the journey in which he discovered America. You will not stop learning!

“Ghost tour”
My friend and I were waiting at the meeting spot looking out for the yellow umbrella as fron 10.50 for a 11am tour.
At 11.05, we thought the guide might run a bit late. We've seen another couple wandering around as well.
Around 11.15, we inquired with that couple if they booked the 11 tour as well which they confirmed.
We discussed the tardiness of the guide and both of us called the mobile phone of the company but it went straight to voice mail. At 11.30, we gave up on the guide and realised the guide ghosted us. No email, no contact, nothing.

Emily was a wonderful guide. Full of knowledge. the tour itself gives a taste of what Galway has to offer without inundating you with too much, although jam-packed in a 2 hr tour. It was just enough. I was there for the 11am tour and for the 2 pm tour, both times at least 10 mins early and have waited until at least 10 mins after the supposed start. No Guide, no umbrella, only confused people, who also have booked the tour. A cancellation email would be nice, or a lack of option to choose the days that there is no tour. If I could have given 0 stars, I would have.

Reservamos una visita guiada en español pero al llegar al sitio acordado teníamos un email indicando que la visita en español no estaba disponible y que sólo había en inglés. Hicimos la visita en inglés con una chica muy maja, Emily, que hablaba un inglés muy claro, la entendimos muy bien, y nos explicó todo genial. Era muy maja y nos contó cosas interesantes de todos los sitios que visitamos. Fue muy interesante, lo recomiendo.

Emily was a very enthusiastic and funny tour guide. She had a great amount of knowledge and provided us with little anecdotes from the past and present of the sights in Galway.
Even though it was raining during the entire tour, it was fun and easy to listen to her and to follow her around town.

“No lo recomiendo en absoluto ”
No lo recomendaría, es un recorrido muy pequeño y el 401 hace lo mismo por 1,50 €. Aparte solo se puede utilizar durante 6 horas y hay muy frecuencias. Es una pérdida de tiempo y de dinero. Aparte la explicación solo es en inglés. No lo recomiendo en absoluto. Le pregunté al conductor a qué hora pasaba el último por Salthill Parade y me dijo que a las 16:15. De casualidad estuve 15 minutos antes y pasó a las 16, con que lo hubiera perdido si le hago caso. No me ha gustado nada. No perdáis vuestro tiempo ni vuestro dinero.

Joe Thornton was personable, knowledgeable and funny. He took the time before the tour to learn all of our names and where we from. The tour took a little longer than planned because it was on a busy Saturday morning, but my group didn’t mind as we were here for just the day. At the end he gave us recommendations to less touristy pubs and thrift shops.

The weather was typical Irish, but our guide Killian made the best of it. Nice walk, a lot of stories and anecdotes, mixed with some historic knowledge. The spoken English was very good for us do understand (we're Germans). Altogether, it was fun, we highly recommend it.

Thank you Joe Thornton for a wonderful walking tour today. Despite having twice as many people than he expected and the rain, Joe gave us a great two hours around Galway city. I would thoroughly recommend this Yellow Umbrella tour to anyone who wants to learn about Galway city and Ireland.

Joe Thornton tour of Galway seemed to cover more areas and stops than the other tour guides. He as entertaining, answered all our questions and stayed until the last question was asked. Very personable and a great ambassador for Galway. I highly recommend him.
