STOPS ALONG THE TOUR
1st STOP: The historic Calamatta Square from which you can reach the historic center. Leaving from Piazza Leandra you will be able to enter the heart of the old medieval town where the Church of the Star is located, passing through the Porta dell'Archetto you will reach Piazza Saffi, where it is still possible to see the remains of the old wall made by Antonio Sangallo under order of Pope Leo X.
2nd STOP: The Cathedral of Saint Francis of Assisi, the main church of Civitavecchia dating back to the 17th century built in the historic center of the city.
The National Archaeological Museum of Civitavecchia located in the palace of Pope Clement XIII, built in the 18th century.
Fort Michelangelo that Pope Julius II commissioned from the famous artist Bramante, creator of the Bramante cloister in Rome, to defend the port of Civitavecchia from the continuous raids by pirates.
The Marina of Civitavecchia where the famous Statue of the Kiss is located right on the seafront of the city.
3rd STOP: El Pirgo where you will find restaurants of different types and prices, with a wonderful view over the sea where you can also try typical local fish dishes such as “Zuppa di Pesce Civitavecchiese”, “Fettuccine allo Scoglio” (seafood pasta), “Polpetti Affogati alla Civitavecchiese” (octopus-based dish), le “Lumachelle di mare” (sea snails).
4th STOP: the Church of the Holy Japanese Martyrs where it is possible to admire the wonderful frescoes by the Japanese painter Luca Hasegawa.
5th STOP: the Bullfighting Baths or Baths of Trajan, from Etruscan and Roman times. They take the name of the famous emperor Trajan and are one of the most important thermal complexes from the Roman age in all of southern Etruria.
