Things to do Bratislava Free Tour: World War 2 and Communism
Sad and Long tour! It is a free walking tour with just certified professional guides, who cover the crazy roller-coaster, which we experienced in the 20th century. We will discuss the end of World War 2, the coup by the communist party, the crimes that both of these regimes did, and we will see what they left behind. The upside down pyramid, one of the ugliest buildings in the world, the crazy squares of our Uprising (Former Stalin Square), Gottwald (1st communist president). We also visit the last standing synagogue and much more. Groups over 8 are not accepted on our tours, as we to make our tours enjoyable for everyone. If you are a large group, please contact us.

Had to turn up for a second tour as not enough people the first time which put plans for the day into disarray.
When it did get off the ground it was great, really interesting tour, great guide with lots of useful information and learned loads. Always interested in the smaller useful stuff. Saw sights and learnt stories that brought every emotion to the fore, from sadness to anger to joy. Highly recommended

This tour makes you see and discover the 20th century full History in Bratislava, by touring around some monuments. I did it after the Old Town Tour. I think they complete very well one to each other.
The guide is great, both interesting and interested to your History. He also shared us some of his family anecdotes during communist time.
Also in this tour, the guide shared us nice slovak food recommendations in the end !

I have been to similar walking tours but this time i was a bit dissapointed. The tour with Michael left a lot to be disired in the history component. It was focused more on the buildings,style and architect rather than the actual 20th century history , society and stories with the exception of a few basics.

Our guide knew how to handle the group, speak so everyone could hear, and best of all, spoke with great fluency and knowledge of his subject - Slovakia in the C20th and Communism. In his opinions he was fair but took a viewpoint (communisms, or ‘socialism’ might have good motives but always fails). His tour also included the most ugly building in Bratislava (although he said it was ‘complicated’). An excellent tour/talk - I am sure the ‘tips’ far exceeded any notional standard fee. Strongly recommended.

Super interesting, great guide with a lot of expertise. Excellent mix of profound historical background information, serious atmosphere when speaking of problematic parts of slovac history but also with a charming wit when commenting recent political events. Paul showed us many historical sites but also other different parts of the city. It doesn't cover the old town, which we also enjoyed, because thanks to the tour we visited places we'd probable missed otherwise. Huge recommendation!
PS: the tour feels neither long nor overwhelmingly sad (as indicated in the description), it really was a very good mix!
