Travel to the most populous city in Flanders and discover the many unique monuments it has. On our Antwerp Free Walking Tour you will visit the main attractions in what is one of the most important city´s in Belgium. Did you know that it belonged to the Spanish Netherlands?
Our English speaking guided tour starts at the city´s main square named Grote Markt located in front of the Town Hall. We will contemplate the Farmer´s Tower or the Boerentoren, the first highrise building in Europe and the tallest in the continent until 1959. We´ll go back in time to the Viking period as we take a stroll around the Het Steen Castle, the oldest fortress in Antwerp.
Our tour continues with the Rubens House, one of the most famous painters in the history of art. This is where the artist lived and worked for the last 29 years of his life. It is currently a museum based on the painter. Ruben´s influence is also evident as we visit St. Charles Borromeo church, a Jesuit church known as “Rubens´Church” because he had a hand in the design of the tower and the façade.
We will also visit other secret places full of charm like the Botanical Garden, a green oasis located right in the heart of the hustle and bustle of the city; or the Black Panther art gallery, the oldest and most active of contemporary art in the Flanders region. In the past the use of this space was quite different and we will in fact be able to spot some signs of its past. Can you guess what it used to be? We´ll discover it together!
