Things to do Past & Present Free Tour of Zadar
I will take a walking tour of Zadar from the city gate. I will tell you a brief history of the city, after the introduction, I will describe the fortification system in Zadar in the 16th century. In more detail, I will describe the construction and meaning of the city gate and how the entrance to the city was built. I will also describe the Ponton Bastion and the Forte Bastion. We continue to Five Wells Square, where there is Captain Fort and the Jelena Madio public park. Later in the walking tour, we will continue to the old entrance to the city. The next stop is the Church of San Simeón. I will explain all about the phases of the church and how it changed its title. I will also explain the political situation that led to the making of the Chest of Saint Simeon. Later, we will pass by the Rector's palace in Zadar. The next stop on the tour is the People's Square with its buildings. After that, we can go to the market where the remains of the church of Santa María are. Later, we will go to the Roman Forum Cathedral and finish with Sea Organ.

We go on a lot of free tours and, sadly, this wasn't one of the best. Didn't come away with a feel for life in Zadar. Too much ancient history, not well joined up, and too long.

“Fantastische Tour mit viel Wissenswertem und Spaß”
Ich habe die Tour recht spontan den Abend vorher gebucht. Die ursprüngliche Tour um 11 Uhr musste leider wegen Unwetters ausfallen, aber die Teilnahme um 14:30 Uhr war kein Problem.
Es wurde darauf geachtet bei den warmen Temperaturen eher im Schatten zu stehen und es gab auch eine kurze Pause an einem Trinkwasserbrunnen.
Ansonsten gab es viel Wissenwertes über die Geschichte der Stadt und einige Parallelen zwischen den damaligen und heutigen Bewohnern. Mit viel Liebe zum Detail und Interaktion mit den Teilnehmern war diese Tour trotz 2,5 Stunden wie ein Wimpernschlag vorbei. Jedem der sich für die Geschichte und Bauwerke ernsthaft interessiert würde ich die Tour empfehlen. Alle die „nur mal die Sehenswürdigkeiten abklappern“ wollen reicht bestimmt auch eine kürzere Tour. Am Ende gab es noch gute Empfehlungen für Aktivitäten und Restaurants.
Ja es ist auf Trinkgeldbasis und ich habe gerne ein ordentliches Trinkgeld gegeben, aber es wurde überhaupt nicht darauf gedrängt also sehr angenehm auch zum Schluss!

A detailed introduction to Zadar’s past and connection to the present. Dejan really knows his stuff and adds elements of humor to keep things light. I learned so much on this tour that I didn’t need to visit a museum or do further reading on the history of Zadar. Plus he has great restaurant, cafe and nightlife recommendations!

“Got stood up”
We booked the Tour but the Guide didn't show up nor did we get a message that the tour was canceled.
Today (on out way to the bus station leaving the city) we saw the Guild starting the Tour. So we knew that we were at the right spot one day ago.
We have done a lot of tours in a lot of cities but we never got stood up...
We hope it was a one time thing.
