Discover the charm of Trancoso and its Jewish Quarter on this engaging walking tour through its stories, legends, and most iconic spots. The tour begins at the Trancoso Tourist Information Center and winds through the magnificent historic center, with a stop at the Chapel of São Bartolomeu. We continue past the statues of King Dinis and Queen Santa Isabel, passing through the ancient Portas d’El Rei, one of the most iconic entrances to the city walls. Along the way, we’ll explore the figure of the remarkable Bandarra and the impact of his prophecies, passing by his statue and the Casa do Bandarra, and we’ll visit the Isaac Cardoso Jewish Cultural Center, which is essential for understanding the town’s Jewish heritage. We then continue to the Poço do Mestre and the Casa do Gato Preto, sites steeped in local history, as well as the Church of São Pedro and the Pillory, symbols of social and political life throughout the centuries. Before concluding, we’ll pass by the statue of João Tição and climb up to the imposing Trancoso Castle, where we’ll enjoy panoramic views and wrap up this journey through the stories that have shaped the town. After visiting the magnificent castle, there will still be time to explore Trancoso’s traditional shops.
