The enchantment of Albania Nature: The source of Blue Eye National Park
Leaving at 9 am from Saranda, in just a few minutes you will arrive near the source of the Blue Eye. This hidden area represents the best things to see in Albania for lovers of relaxation and nature. Water is the undisputed protagonist. The water collected a few tens of kilometers away in the Mali i Gjërë mountain range goes underground and rises right here. Inside a large pool of crystal clear water, our gaze is drawn to a dark blue spot in the center. Looking closer, you will see that the blue spot has the shape of a circle (the pupil) that expands to the outside in an elliptical shape (the iris), taking on fantastic colors from emerald green to light green. The magic of this source is all there, in this hole that brings us into contact with the depths of the earth, called the Blue Eye National Park. But this pool is not only the main attraction of the area. Dozens of small paths leave from here to venture safely to discover lush vegetation and other fantastic mirrors of spring water. The park is a place for both, adults and children alike to have a fantastic intimate and fun experience, just a few minutes from the beaches.
Guided tour of Lekuresi Castle
You cannot say that you saw Saranda without having visited the Lekuresi Castle. The castle was built in 1537 by the Ottoman sultan Suleiman I the Magnificent, who owed a period of particular expansion of the Ottoman influence on the area. Suleiman I attacked Corfu and had a manor built on the highest hill inland from Saranda to be able to control the entire valley below. From Corfu and Ksamil to Saranda and beyond, towards Butrint. All around the fortress of Lekuresi are the ruins of the homonymous village. The square plan of the castle forms a large open space in the center, a sort of terrace from which it is possible to have an extraordinary view.
