Being one of the historic temples in Jaipur, Shila Devi Mandir is known for its unique features and rich historical facts. The famous Hindu temple is based on the legendary fact that when Raja Man Singh I of Amber was defeated by King Kedar, he sought the blessings of Mata Shila Devi. According to the folktale, the goddess granted his wishes by appearing in his dreams but also told him to fetch her statue, which was lying beneath the sea near Jessore. The goddess, then, ordered the King to bring the statue and build a temple. While recovering the statue, a slab was recovered from the sea.
