Gilgit, which is the capital city of the Gilgit-Baltistan region of Pakistan, holds historical and modern significance. Historical accounts suggest that Gilgit has played a critical role in the promotion of Buddhism across the world.

Gilgit was actually a Buddhism corridor through which Chinese monks passed to get to Kashmir with the aim to study and preach Buddhism. The Budha carved on a rock in Kargah Nullah in Gilgit is a living example about the significance of Gilgit in the promotion of Buddhism.

Situated about 95 kilometers to the north of Gilgit is the Hunza Valley, nestled along the Hunza River at about 2500 meters from sea level. Hunza boasts a rich history and heritage besides beautiful and scenic valleys, snow capped mountains and very friendly and liberal people.
