About Qutub Minar:
Qutub Minar is a UNESCO World Heritage site and a landmark of historical and architectural significance in Delhi, India. It is one of the most iconic monuments in the country and holds a unique place in the history of Islamic architecture in India. Here's a brief overview:
Construction and History:
Qutub Minar was constructed by Qutb-ud-din Aibak, the founder of the Mamluk dynasty in India, around 1192. However, he was only able to complete the base. His successor, Iltutmish, continued the construction and completed the monument. The final story was added later by Firoz Shah Tughlaq in the 14th century after parts of the minaret had been damaged by an earthquake.
Design and Architecture:
The Qutub Minar is a towering 73-meter-high minaret, primarily made of red sandstone with intricate carvings and inscriptions. It has five distinct stories, with a tapering design and a projecting balcony marking each story. The lower three stories are primarily red sandstone, while the top two incorporate marble and sandstone.
